We are all passionate about our sport. The scenery, the technical challenge, the adrenaline, the camaraderie…
Sounds great, however there are increasing pressures that are restricting access to more riding areas each year. Have you read the reports? Have you responded to all the petitions and attended the public meetings? What would you write or say anyway? It takes time to really understand the issues and options to take an informed stand.
Time; it is a commodity that seems to be in short supply. You are busy and to take yourself away from your business and family is costly in time and money.
Seriously consider it for a moment.
- How much is the privilege of backcountry sledding worth to you?
- To your kids and grandkids?
- How likely is it that this trend isn’t expected to reverse itself any time soon?
- How much would it cost you to take an informed stand to participate? Probably hundreds of dollars if you factored in time off work, travel costs, and a little preparation time.
So, what if there was a way to spend a fraction of this amount and know that your beliefs and passions were being represented in the discussions?
For less than a tank of fuel in your truck you can join a provincial snowmobile association. Membership numbers count when creating policy and settling disputes. Volunteer your time as well and you will add in new energy and a new point of view that is always necessary to stimulate creativity in negotiations and workable solutions.
